June is the month of the summer solstice which marks the start of summer where we receive the most hours of daylight. It is a hectic month in the garden calendar as fruit, vegetables and plants need to be taken extra care of.

Harvest

This is the time of year when the first crops are ready to be harvested. Lettuce, strawberries, salads and early potatoes. Crops such as lettuce needs to be sowed regular to ensure a constant supply for the season.

Maintenance

Lawns should be mowed at least once a week in the month of June. Grass grows very fast and this is the best time to make sure your grass does not have any bare patches or moss in it. This can be done by ensure your lawn is taken care of by watering and dethatching it. It is also important to practice regular weeding as it will prolong plant growth and give your garden a neat and tidy look.

Plants

Plant out tender bedding plants and make sure they are looked after by regularly watering them. This will give them a good initial growth. Vegetables such as beans, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and carrots can also be planted in June. Repotting of house plants and putting up hanging baskets can also be done.

Enjoy!

Finally, after putting in all that work you deserve to relax. Uncover your garden furniture, light the grill and chill out with your feet up and enjoy the beautiful sunshine.
